SWEDISH STEREOTYPES

SPORTKILLE- "Sportkille" meaning "jock" is a classic stereotype of a male athlete. The jocks are usually members of the school team. They often wear workout clothes or clothes with a sportsbrand and they are always carrying around a big bag containing sweaty gym clothes.

BRAT- "Brat" is the title of teenagers from the upper-class. The brats are known for not having an own income, they live out of money from their wealthy parents. The word brat is associated with a special fashionstyle. Polo's, tight jeans and backslicks are a regular theme in their style.

EMO- Today the term "emo" is used both for music and fashion. The stereotypic emo is wearing skinny jeans, such as the swedish jeansbrand Cheap Monday. The also have band-tshirts, converse or/and Vans. The emokids have a special hairstyle, such as bangs covering one side of the face, usually black or colored.
TÖNT- The nerds are often characterized as the smart guys. The word "nerd" comes from the english word "nerd". It is a stereotypic, often negative term of a person who has a fixated interest or a special field of interest. In film and television depictions, nerds are usually shown as people with very large glasses, braces and trousers highly lifted up.

FJORTIS- The word "fjortis" is a Scandinavian term for young teenagers (especially girls) who behave in an immature, insecure or naive way. The word meaning "fourteen" can also be used for people in other age-groups, and therefore the word has nothing to do with age, it's rather a behaviour type. Fjortis girls are deemed to wear a lot of makeup and to use a language with a lot of special expressions, such as "daaaah".

Stereotypes alla England

CHAV
Characteristed well by the acronym 'Council House And Violance'. Chavs are universally admitted to be the scum of society. Also could be descibed as yobs or hooligans. Typically chavs wear cheap tracksuits and caps and sometimes go round with aggressively trained dogs.

INDIE
Originally identified with 'independent' music, now genereally relates to a laid back style with styles looking back to fasions of the past. Usually shops at topshop/topman or 'vintage' stores. In Indieism anything a bit different or of the wall is cool. Kooky.

'TRENDY'
Trendy is the cop out phrase used to descibe anyone who is 'cool' but doesn't fit into any of the more distinctive sterotypes.

JOCK
Most common at private and grammar schools, Jock's are those who interests include Rugby (or sometimes other sports), lash and gash, leaving room for little else.

PREPPY
Typically snobbish public school. Characterised by Ralph Loren, Abercrombie, Hackett and other brands. Admission to this stereotype requires a tacit acknowledgment of superiority over non-public school peers.

EMO
Although not so common anymore, emo's dominated the mid noughties. Sporting mascara, long fringes and drab black clothes, emoism is the most depressing stereotype. However emo's pride themselves on this and to be a proper emo one has to make a halfhearted attempt at self harming. Although emo's were at their most numerous in the heyday of 'Bullet for my Valentine' there are still plenty around in the shadows of society.

NERD
Someone who is accademically successful or very hard working but lacks social accomplishment. In the classroom nerds are often distinguished from other smart people by benig those that consistently suck up to teachers. Also, nerds usually lack any sort of fashion sense.

GOTH
Also a minority group, Goths are those who seek self expression through copious amount of black, leather, studs, grungy hair styles and metal music. Goths usually have numerous peircing in all parts of their bodies...

ASIAN
Over the 1900's Britain had become increasingly dominated by immigrants from India and Pakistan. It is thanks to these 'eastern Britons' that we have our great British tradition of curry. Asian's tend to stick together in schools and look out for each other. Asian's famillies are characterised by owning a curry house or corner shop, or if more succesful being a doctor or salesman. They will always be happy to introduce you to a cousin...
